Rulan
Tangen is a lifelong dance artist, having performed in the U.S.,
Canada, and Europe in the fields of ballet, modern dance, and traditional
powwow dance. As a young dancer she toured Europe with Michael Mao
Dance, and was exposed to dramatic Tanztheater and Martha Graham
aesthetics. Later she formed Maka Chante, a traditional dance
company of Native children. She has been a featured artist for the
Banff Centre for the Arts Aboriginal Dance Program, Native Roots
and Rhythms in Santa Fe, the National Dance Institute, and the World
Indigenous Peoples Conference. She appeared with Robert Mirabal
on the national PBS broadcast "Music from a Painted Cave,"
and toured 80 U.S. cities with Mirabal. In March of 2004 she
was one of a select group of choreographers participating in the
Aboriginal Choreographers' Symposium in Toronto. She wholeheartedly
believes that dance can inspire the world towards diversity, solidarity
and freedom.

Jennnifer
is an Ojibway and Odawa Band member of the Wikwemikong Unceded
Indian Reserve on the ethereal Manitoulin Island in Ontario,
Canada. She has been published in the anthology, RESIST! (AK
Press Inc.), and zines, Third Space, and They Called Her A
Firebrand. Her first chapbook, Left to Shatter (Monkey Book
Press), is, sad to say, currently out-of-print.
As a storyteller, Jennifer has also read at numerous open
mic's and feature readings throughout the Bay Area, and was
recently cast as a member of The Herstories Project's, "BONE
SONGS: Echoes of the Unknown Mother." She also appeared
as a performer at the San Francisco Native American Health
Center's Electric Pow Wow 2004.
She has lived in many places between two oceans: a suburban
wasteland in Florida, the menacing halls of Cornell University
(where she received her B.S.), and the dirt roads and boréal
forests of her Reserve. She now finds herself in the lovely
San Francisco Bay Area.
