A Portal to Contemporary Indigenous American Artbirth

Forrealism is a collective of artists, activists, and educators who view art as education and a key to a peaceful and prosperous future.

The artists represented here make paintings, murals, films, animations, and installations as they seek to beautify the world through these creations.

The creative partnership of Eduardo Pineda and Joaquin Alejandro Newman is dedicated to nurturing community and creativity. Since 2008 they produced over ten murals.

The Alameda County Arts Commission just awarded them a commission to decorate the Ashland Youth Center in concrete engraving. In 2011 they created a 700 sq. ft. digital mural for Highland Hospital (also awarded by the Commission), and produced with intergenerational groups. They also produced a mural at the Mission Neighborhood Health Center, San Francisco with San Francisco State University anthropology students.

In 2009 they created murals for the Family Education and Resource Center, a model mental health service program, and the Fox Courts Apartments, a collaborative project with the Oakland Unified School District School for the Arts, in Oakland, CA.

Fine Art & Commissions

imageWhile public art, art instruction, and community based mural painting has been the foundation of our creativity for over fifteen years, we continue to innovate in paint, digital media. Examples of our work can be found in our On-Line Galleries.

The subject matter of our work for the past decade has been an expression of cultural identity in our modern world, an investigation into the identities of Californians.

From contemporary interpretations of ancient meso-American codex paintings, to satirical calavera (skeleton) paintings in the tradition of Jose Guadalupe Posada, to semiological fusions of cultural symbols, our work has sought to vigorously reassert our indigenous perspective within a multicultural world.
